The Little Black Jacket

I have a meeting in Soho today and while I'm down there, I can't wait to stop by The Little Black Jacket exhibition. Karl Lagerfeld photographed over 100 iconic people in the iconic little black jacket for a new book The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited by  Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld that will be released this fall.  The photos will be on display at 18 Wooster Street from June 8-15, 2012.

“The Chanel jacket was actually inspired by an Austrian men's jacket. Coco Chanel invented a type of  piece  that had never before existed in this particular form, and no-one can take this achievement away from her. It is an icon that embodies the essence of the Chanel style. Some things never go out of fashion in the world of fashion: jeans, the white shirt and the Chanel jacket." - Karl Lagerfeld

“I designed the Chanel suit for women who move”, Gabrielle Chanel is reported to have said. “I’m a great admirer of the female race. I wanted to give women clothes that they would feel comfortable in, that they could drive in but that, at the same time, would emphasize their femininity."

"It's a classic that goes with everything." - Sofia Coppola

"I now own one and I happened to wear it today to this shoot and amongst some other things in my life, I consider it a prize possession. I feel very lucky."
- Sarah Jessica Parker

"When you own something of this luxury you don't give it away, you pass it down to the next generation." - Kirsten Dunst
